• Participants bring along unwanted clothing and get a token for each item.
• Use your tokens to “shop” for items that others have brought along.
• Out of respect for fellow swappers and your community, please bring clean items nice enough to lend to a friend.
• Nothing to swap? – Use gold coins to “shop” for items.
• Please bring your own bag
• It’s lots of FUN!

Each week a group of children from the Glenallen School come along to spend time in the garden. 

If you would like to get involved with the garden, please contact Jessie at  ChesterfieldCommunityGarden@gmail.com  The Garden will also be open for viewing on Saturday 24th March from 10am till 1pm while we run our next clothes Swap.

Temuku Flutes will be playing some lovely background music for your enjoyment, and we have Dandenong Ranges Renewable Energy, Transition Mooky, Em2Gem, Grassroots Market, Ranges Energy Community Solar Farm, Belgrave Heights Christina School, Emerald for Sustainability (EmFSus) Magpie House, Judith Eardley Dave Wildlife, Yarra Ranges Council, Hills Herb Society, Upwey Garden Club and of course Transition Sherbrooke with Food Swap, Community Harvest, Backyard Revolution, Friends of Upwey/Tecoma Community Orchard (FRUTCO), Community Harvest and Birdsland Environment Collective all represented, so come along and meet the people in your Community doing all of this wonderful work.

At 7.15pm we will be screening the award winning Economics of Happiness which has taken the world by storm. You don’t want to miss the fantastic opportunity to see this inspirational movie so close to home! Following the movie there will be a facilitated panel discussion with Community Leaders Lee Fuller, Brian Lennon, Zoe Stephens & Peter Allen (Pete the Permie) hosted by Marcus Deuchar, and we will finish off with tea, coffee and cakes supplied by Bensons, Earthly Pleasures, Green Bean, Kallista Tearooms & the Thermomix Man.

$5 entry and supper by donation. All welcome

The second part of our event will commence with a shared lunch at the Tecoma Uniting Church on Saturday 26th November at midday. Please bring a plate to share and also something for the Swap Table. This can be an item you no longer want/need, some excess garden produce, preserves, seedlings, eggs, books etc. The idea is to share things we no longer want or have excess of, in order to stop them from going to waste. At 1pm we will commence our facilitated Community Conversations where where participants will create key groups for discussion around topics of interest, and spend time reflecting on issues, sharing knowledge, information and inspiring ideas for facilitating change. This is a very inspiring and motivating process and I encourage all of you who have never participated before to come along and contribute to this powerful exercise in community building. Entry by donation with proceeds going to Tecoma Uniting Church. All Welcome.

Join TTM for a Bring and Share meal at 6 pm and/or come and hear the BZE speaker at 7 pm followed by discussion. Venue: Community Hall, Knaith Rd, Ringwood East. (the hall is set back from the road down a long driveway.)

The area was constructed as a joint effort between Knox Council, Transition Knox and Paz. It contains log seating areas, native grasses, Bush Tucker plants and herbs. It will remain at the site after the festival ends.

Our free seed planting activity for kids was a great success. Hopefully all those bean, corn and silverbeet seeds will grow, and spark and interest in gardening for our young visitors. They certainly all enjoyed getting their fingers in the dirt.

There were 140 worms in the Jar, and the prize of Hortico garden products was won by Simon of Rowville.

 Our Raffle ticket sales were disappointing – so we have decided to hold on to the basket until our clothes swap on 19 November, and draw it then. Everyone who bought a ticket is still in the draw to win.

BUILDING A PERMACULTURE GARDEN

Come along and help build a permaculture inspired garden for our stall at the StringyBark Festival. Paz Feigenbaum from FIG (Food Integrated Gardens) has come up with a design. Work on the site will be on Monday 10th October and Wednesday 12th October.
Come along any time between 10am and 3pm to help with creating the garden – no experience required.

STRINGYBARK FESTIVAL

Our stall at the Stringybark Festival is based on a theme of “In my own Backyard” and will highlight simple actions every one of us can easily take on board to reduce our environmental footprint.
We will have information about growing some of your own food, keeping chooks in Knox, making a worm farm, composting, green cleaning and more.
Kids will be able to plant a seed to take home and nurture, and guess the number of worms in the jar.

CLOTHES SWAP EVENT

After the success of our last clothes swap event we are planning a Spring event on Saturday November 19th.
Time: 10 am till 2 pm on Saturday 19th November 2011
Place: Ferntree Gully Community Arts Centre, 1010 Burwood Highway, Ferntree Gully
Its a great opportunity to bring along some unwanted items from your wardrobe and swap them for something that you would wear. Great for upgrading the kids clothes also and it only costs $2 to participate.

CHESTERFIELD FARM COMMUNITY GARDEN

Chesterfield Farm Community Garden is a Transition Knox project set up for members of the local community to come together to grow their own vegetables, share skills and knowledge.

The open day held on Sunday 25th September was a great success. Jessie organised everything to perfection, the weather was very kind, there was a great turnout of visitors, and enough volunteers to cover off everything that needed to be done. Many thanks to everyone that helped out on the day, and to Bunnings Scoresby for providing the “Paint a pot” activity.

For those who entered the “Guess the number of worms in the Jar” competition, there were an amazing 351 worms in the jar. The prize of a Gardening bucket filled with Garden supplies went to a local family.

MAKER MAMAS CRAFT WORKSHOPS

Sessions run on the second & fourth Thursday of the month and are run by senior members of the community keen to pass on their Knitting, crochet and sewing skills. They run from 7.30 – 9.00. and cost $8

KNOX ENVIRONMENT AWARDS

Transition Knox has been nominated for a Knox Environment Award for this year – making up the nomination were The Clothes Swap, Maker Mamas, Chesterfield Farm Community Garden, Knox Park Primary Garden group and Biodiversity brochures. The award we have l been nominated for the Greenleaf Sustainable Living Award:An award for an individual or community group showing outstanding commitment to leadership, motivation or promotion of environmental issues.

The sun was shining and there were lots of visitors to the open garden held on 25th September 2011.

 Bunnings kindly provided a childrens activity of painting terracotta pots.  Sausages were sizzled, and Jessie gave a great demonstration of building your own worm farm. If you missed the demo, you can look at these links to get the idea.
